Description

The Bruce Trail is one of the oldest long-distance trails in Canada. It was created in the 1960s. It goes from Tobermory to Niagara Falls.
The trail runs 800+ km along the Niagara Escarpment, one of the thirteen UNESCO Biosphere Reserves in Canada. You will see cool rock formations, green forests, high cliffs, and so much more. If you are doing it in the fall, be ready to be blown away by the fall colours!

Highlights

  • Colours: Ontario and Québec are known for their vivid fall colours
  • Bruce Peninsula: Be prepared for high cliff and turquoise water.
  • Well-marked: When you have bushwalked and hiked where there is no trail, it's always relaxing to enjoy a well-marked trail.

Challenges

  • Poison Ivy: If this little plant gets in touch with your skin, expect a rash that will last weeks.
  • Camping: Wild camping is not allowed.
  • Not remote enough: Ontario is the most populated provinces of Canada (by a lot!).

When to go

The trail is open year round. I decided to do the hike in the fall for the gorgeous colours (would recommend). To time your hike well for the fall colours, visit this website.

Resupplies

There are plenty of towns on the trail or close by for resupplying. Please visit resupply plan for further information.

GPS

Bruce Trail website has extra information needed for some good planning. I have also made my own GPS file (with km markers).

My Stats

For reference only, as they say: "Hike your own hike."

  • Average distance: ~47 km/day (~29 miles)

  • Days on the trail: 17 days
  • Days off the trail: 2 days (includes days of very minimal distance)
  • The number of snakes sighted: A dozen a least
