Gros Morne
The trail that crosses Gros Morne National Park is an unmaintained route. The first part (Long Traverse) sees more traffic and is a lot easier to follow and read. The second part (Northern Traverse) is a lot harder and requires good preparation.

A few tips to make this part easier:
  • Have a satellite detailed map on your phone (helps to avoid bushwalking)
  • Carry a hard copy map (one of the worst place for your GPS to fail)
  • Avoid most of the bushwalking. If you find yourself bushwalking for hours you have gone off trail
  • Planned extra time and food (your speed is going to be reduced)
  • Take your time to navigate, don't rush through this section
  • Travel during daylight 

Coastal Weather
While I was hiking on my trip, I encountered a hurricane and a tropical storm. These storms are not so rare in Newfoundland. Here are a few steps to improve your safety:

  • Look at your weather app often (Newfoundland has great cellphone reception coverage)
  • Bring a storm proof shelter
  • Choose well-sheltered camping spots
