International Appalachian Trail Alternative Routes

“Traditional science is all about finding shortcuts.”
-Rudy Rucker

The International Appalachian Trail is a wonderful trail in itself, by no means, this section is a critic to the IAT. Even the most amazing things can be improved.

I'm usually someone more into detours than shortcuts. This trail does a wonderful job at including highlights close by. This section has only one shortcut to save a bit of time and energy. On the map, the red line is the official trail, the brown line the shortcut.

When I first looked at the trail, I really found awkward the loop the trail was taken. I thought they made it that way to avoid the main road, but it was to go see a small waterfall with a marsh. I decided to cut short on a dirt road that had barely any traffic.

Direction: Around km 89, you will meet a road (2e Rang) take a left, follow that road until Chemin du Lac Lavoie. Which will lead you back on the trail at around km 114.

Distance: The official trail is ~25km and the shortcut is ~11km.
